South Tyrol's 800 castles, fortresses, and estate manors – towering majestically on mountaintops or situated amidst vineyards – are often home to museums and galleries or are used as hotels and restaurants.
The mighty towers, walls, walkways along the battlements, festive halls, and castle chapels are an open invitation to travel through time and visit the country's historic past.
Heavenly Architecture
A varied history including such artistic epochs as the Romanic, the Gothic, and the Baroque has left its mark on the architectural style of South Tyrol.
The numerous churches, chapels, and monasteries which dot the landscape as well as the well-preserved sculptures, late-Gothic winged altars, and valuable frescoes they contain are testaments of a rich artistic past which you are sure to find enchanting.
