Our family-run Hotel Magdalenahof in Valle di Casies – South Tyrol

Full of character and feeling

Fresh mountain air, endless nature trails, time to simply be.
Inside, warmth; outside, adventures. Our philosophy? It’s simple – a holiday should do you good. When you feel good, you arrive at yourself. And it doesn’t take much – just the essentials: movement in untouched nature, refined relaxation in the spa, and honest cuisine. We also believe in the power of small, honest pleasures. Sounds like a good plan? Perfect – that’s exactly how we do it.

Speaking of us. May we introduce ourselves?

Host Josef

whatever he takes on, he does with all his heart.
Josef is a doer. When he has a vision, he makes it reality: in 2005 he and his wife Karin fulfilled their dream of owning a hotel – since then, he’s been fully involved every day, with dynamic passion and energy. He’s a man for all occasions: craftsman, cook, hiking guide, and organiser all in one. But above all, Josef is a person who loves what he does. And you can feel it.

„I’m at home above the tree line – I’ve climbed many 3,000-metre peaks, a few still await. Those who hike with me through Val Casies discover places no GPS knows. The mountains are my world – and I’m happy to show them to you.“

Hostess Karin

… ensures everything runs as it should.
Karin has an eye for beauty, an ear for everyone, and keeps an eye on everything.
With her fine sense for people, organisational talent, and love of details, she makes everyone feel welcome. If she’s not inside, you’ll find her outside: forest bathing, immersing herself and guests in the calm and strength of nature.

„In the nature, I rediscover my inner balance – and regain energy. On foot, on skis, or by bike: the motto is always outside, always on the move. Preferably together with Josef, somewhere up there between peak bliss and dwarf pines.“

Junior host Fabian

… never leaves anyone thirsting.
Fabian trained at the hotel management school in Brunico and expanded his knowledge in Lucerne. Innovation runs in his blood, and new ideas are constantly flowing. At the hotel bar, he ensures your glass is never empty – whether classic or unusual cocktail, just ask. When he’s not mixing drinks, he passionately heads into nature for hunting.

„Every Friday is cocktail evening with us – shaken, stirred, and mixed to perfection. But even on other days, I make sure you never sit dry.“

Junior hostess Michaela

… Is bursting with energy.
Michaela’s cheerful nature makes everyone and everything shine – so it’s no wonder that good humour is served up alongside breakfast. In her free time, she climbs: together with her mother Karin, she conquered Kilimanjaro (5895 m). Do most of the Val Casies peaks now feel like a gentle stroll to her? You’ll have to ask her yourself.

„Perhaps you’ve already discovered them – my little breakfast delights that like to hide on the buffet each week. Whether fluffy waffles, creamy chia pudding, homemade Bircher muesli or juicy muffins – I’m always experimenting with something new to make your morning magical.“

Junior hostess Johanna

… is solid as a rock.
Or like a still lake in the Val Casies mountains. Because Johanna always stays completely calm, even when things get hectic. Stress and pressure never affect her. Instead, she welcomes our guests with a warm smile and a fine sense for people. In winter she glides along the cross-country trails, in summer she bikes through the Val Pusteria.

„At reception I keep an eye on everything – and usually have the answer ready before the question is even finished. Tips, wishes, small concerns? Bring them on – I’ll listen, give advice, and usually have something to make you smile.“

Grown, rooted, carried:

A house with history

The beginning? Was, like many things with us, genuine, wholehearted – and a little adventurous.
Because in 2005, Karin and Josef decided to make it happen. Instead of dreaming it forever, they got to work: bought the land, made plans, rolled up their sleeves. A place was to be created that would welcome people as is done in the mountains – with openness, warmth, and a feeling of home. From a “one day” became “day one”, because nine months later our family-run hotel at the head of the Val Casies opened its doors.

On 15 June there was still a celebration, and four days later the first breakfast was already served.
Much has happened since then, but one thing has remained the same: the joy of being hosts. And because we want our guests to always feel completely at ease, every five years we take time to make the house a little more beautiful. Refined renovations, loving details – everything that makes your stay that bit more special.
