White magic: winter holidays in Val Pusteria

Snow-powdered mountain landscapes, bright blue skies and a heartfelt welcome wherever you go. A winter holiday in Val Pusteria/Pustertal is all this. And more. Old friend or first-time visitor, we are always happy to welcome you to South Tyrol’s quaintest valley and share its natural treasures with you. Our hotel is just the perfect starting point for all sorts of winter pursuits and we know how to help you make the most of its strategic location!

For example, we offer you quality equipment for hire, free of charge. Skis, toboggans, hiking rucksacks, cross-country skis and maps are at your complete disposal. This way you can travel unencumbered and still enjoy the variety of experiences a winter holiday in Val Pusteria has to offer.

Skiing in Val Pusteria

It goes without saying, skiing is THE winter activity par excellence here in the Alps. Most of us learn to ski at a very young age and it is certainly no surprise that South Tyrol has so much to offer in terms of pistes and slopes. While it might look lost in the middle of a peaceful nowhere, Hotel Magdalenahof is actually located right where you need it to be: next to the local ski piste! The Casies ski lift and ski school are just next door. The perfect conditions for young and old to carve through glistening expanses away from the hurly-burly of mainstream ski areas. However, if you are spending your winter holidays in Val Pusteria, the Plan de Corones/Kronplatz is an absolute must. With 120 km of pistes, it is the no. 1 ski resort in South Tyrol.

Nordic skiing in Casies

Val Pusteria scores high with Nordic skiers, too – and for good reason. Secluded as it may be, Casies is in fact part of the legendary Dolomiti Nordicski, the largest cross-country ski circuit in Europe. Just a couple of metres away from Hotel Magdalenahof, the trail extends ca. 40 km across Valle di Casies alone. The whole trail is suitable for both classic and skating style and generally in good conditions even on relatively snowless winters. The valley section of the trail leading from our hotel to Monguelfo/Welsberg across the valley is floodlit at night!

Snowshoeing in Val Pusteria

Your host Josef Burger will be guiding you on several snowshoe hikes. As you listen to his anecdotes about Valle di Casies, South Tyrol and the mountains, you will be exploring fantastic landscapes wrapped in glistening winter magic. Stand by to be amazed!

You do not even need to worry about the equipment, we take care of everything. Snowshoes, rucksacks and telescopic poles are at your disposal, free of charge.

Other activities for your winter holiday in Val Pusteria

In Val Pusteria, the white season could not be more colourful. For example, why choose between fascinating heights and a rewarding descent on the powder snow if you can have both? A ski tour combines the two experiences beautifully. Negotiating your way through crisp snowy expanses while the cold winter air tickles your nose and the bright sun lightens up your way is simply elating. If you seek to add a romantic touch to your winter holiday, you can take a ride on a horse-drawn sleigh through the enchanted snowscape. Families can share some hilarious hours bolting downhill on the toboggan run near us, hiring their sledges at no charge.

There really is to suit all tastes… are you coming?
